Recording
Demos
Ok, so you want to record a demo. Well it's not as simple
as you might think....
The basic commands are:
"demorec [filename]"
"demostop"
"demoplay [filename]"
(these must be executed from the in-game console)
The demo files are saved in your UnrealTournament\System
folder (and this is also where they must be to play them).
Now that part is dead simple but there are quite a few pitfalls
to be wary of. All of these seem to be bugs that are specific to
UT, not Thievery but for now they all have workarounds (well, they make
a watchable demo anyway....)
Bug |
Fix |
| The 'Choose Team' GUI will remain on screen throughout the demo
if you start recording 'on the fly' |
Start recording BEFORE you choose your team (even then the 'Guard'
and 'Thief' buttons occasionally still appear. |
| When you play back the demo your name will be changed to Player |
Change your name AFTER recording begins if you want it to display
properly. |
| Everything said in the chat window is printed twice. |
No fix, but it's not a big enough bug to destroy Tokyo so it can
be ignored... |
| If you are still recording when the game ends UT will crash to the
desktop. |
Either stop recording before the game ends (you could bind a key
to 'demostop') or cheerfully reboot your PC before you can run UT
again. |
It has also been suggested that instead of using demoplay
[filename] use demoplay [filename]?3rdperson instead (There is no space
between the filename and ?3rdperson).
This starts the demo in 3rd person view as your own camera, not on any
player.
It should also remove the Choose Team GUI.
To cycle through all the players and bots you left click instead of right
click.
